The courthouse in St. Louis, Missouri, an original steel engraving printed in black, dated about 1850 and issued in a Meyer publication of Hildburghausen. The plate title is engraved in English, "The Court-House in St Louis", and a plate number appears in the upper left corner.

The building is a Greek Revival block with pedimented porticoes and tall columns, crowned by a low dome, and it stands in the open corner of two streets. The foreground is full of figures: a horse-drawn carriage and a gig carrying passengers, a rider, ladies in wide skirts and men in top hats, and a small dog. A tall tree and the edge of a stone building frame the scene at the left, and other civic buildings stand behind the courthouse at the right.

The St. Louis courthouse was the seat of the city's courts, and it is remembered above all as the place where the Dred Scott suit was heard. The view shows the town as a busy river port on the road west, drawn for European readers of the series.
