New York City Hall, an original steel engraving published around 1850 by the Bibliographisches Institut of Hildburghausen, as named in the imprint in the lower margin. The sheet is printed in black. The plate title reads "City-Hall (das Rathaus in New-York)".

The building is seen across an iron fence from the street, its marble front and arched windows rising in tiers to a small domed cupola, with an American flag flying from a staff above. A tall gateway of stone piers and a wrought-iron gate stands at the center. A horse-drawn carriage is drawn up at the left, men and women stand about on the pavement, and a tree and a lamp post frame the foreground, with another flag and houses on the right.

City Hall was completed in 1812 at the northern end of the park in lower Manhattan and still serves as the seat of the city government. The view shows it as it stood in the middle of the century, when the city had grown far to the north of it.
