The tower of Santo Domingo in Lima, a lithograph from Mariano Felipe Paz Soldán's Atlas Geográfico de la República del Perú, published in Paris in 1865. The plate is lettered "Vista de la Torre de Santo Domingo" beneath the image, with "Paz Soldán" at the upper left and "Geografía del Perú, Pl. XXVII" at the upper right. It is printed in sepia tones on cream paper, with the artist and printers' credits (F. Delamare, drawn; H. Jacomme, printed) in small lettering below the image.
The view looks across the rooftops of Lima, where flat roofs, balustrades and small kiosks (miradores) are drawn in the foreground, with laundry hanging out to dry. The tall, tiered tower of Santo Domingo rises at the center, and the dome of another church stands to the left, with a line of Andean foothills behind.
Paz Soldán, a Peruvian geographer, published the atlas in Paris in 1865, and it included a series of lithographed views of cities, monuments and landscapes alongside its maps. This plate shows the baroque tower as it stood in the mid-19th century.
