The Plaza Santo Domingo in Mexico City, an original steel engraving from Louis Énault's L'Amérique centrale et méridionale, published in Paris in 1867. The plate is lettered "Place Santo Domingo, à Mexico", drawn by Raymond and engraved by Outhwaite, with the printer's line of Chardon.

The square is seen across its open center. On the left stands an arcaded building with a stone doorway, and across the far side the church of Santo Domingo rises in the middle distance with its tower and dome. A long, balconied building runs along the right under a flag, and market stalls with awnings stand at its foot. Many small figures in hats, shawls and blankets cross the square, including a man on a horse and another stooped under a load, and a monument stands in the middle of the plaza.

Énault wrote for French readers who knew little of Mexico, and plates like this paired colonial architecture with scenes of everyday street life.
