Barracks and Market House, Fredericton, New Brunswick, a hand-colored lithograph of 1831 from Joseph Bouchette's The British Dominions in North America, printed by Day and Haghe, lithographers to the King, London. The credit at the lower left reads "By a Lady," so the original drawing was made by an amateur whose name is not given, and the title and printer's line are lettered below the image.

The view looks across the Saint John River to a level green bank. At the left stands the Market House, a two-story building with a hipped roof and a small cupola with a weathervane, flanked by tall dark poplars. Beyond it a row of plain buildings leads to the long, low barracks at the right, with wooded hills rising behind and a heavy sky of storm cloud overhead. A canoe with three figures glides across the water in the foreground, and the river bank is reflected in the still surface.

Fredericton was the seat of government of New Brunswick and a garrison town, and the view puts the military barracks and the market, the two public buildings of the place, side by side in the landscape. The plate appears in volume two of Bouchette's work, opposite page 110.
