Memorial Hall at Harvard University in Cambridge, an original print from Voyages and Travels Illustrated, published by E. W. Walker & Co. and dated 1887. The image is a photographic view printed in blue-gray tone on a larger cream sheet, titled "Memorial Hall" in script, with "Cambridge, Mass." beneath.
The hall is seen from across the street at an angle, with the bare trees of winter in the foreground. Its tall central tower with a steep roof and pointed dormers rises over a long brick building with a rounded transept end, banded masonry, tall pointed windows and an ornate gabled front at the left. An iron fence runs along the edge of the grounds, and a street sign is just visible at the left margin.
Memorial Hall was built at Harvard in the 1870s in honor of the university's men who died in the Union cause in the Civil War, in the High Victorian Gothic style.
